Wood Clay!

I cooked some wood clay today.  I made some donuts out of it and put one of them on the toaster to dry it out.. however it didn’t dry out like silver clay does.. it started to cook!  Yikes!  I had to throw it out and start again.

I’ve also started another half-sphere.  This is a girly one.. I’ve used a swirly stamp this time for the outer band, and I’ve carved some leaf shapes into it as extensions from the swirls in the band.  I’ve wasted SO MUCH clay today trying to build in the table to take the granulation.  I’ve had two goes at it and neither worked, so there is alot of clay left to recycle now.  In the end I put a coil around the inner edge and I’m building the table up using slip from my first two tries.  I need to use that clay somehow.. there is no more in the budget until mid next month!  LOL  I think it could be a beautiful piece.. I’ll use LOS to bring out the pattern in the band, and I’m thinking I might try my hand at plique a jour enamelling.. it would look lovely in the leaves.  I could go a green colour (they are leaves after all) but then, if I find a nice rose quartz as the focus stone, it may be nice to put a garnet in the bail and do the plique a jour in a deep red.

Don’t know why, but it has turned out flatter than the first one I did.
