Today, I messed around with Aura 22 and my new blow torch for the first time. My first round was a bit of a disaster.

I torched the ring I’m working on outside, but this meant that I couldn’t get a good look at the color of the piece and I think I over heated it because all of the gold seemed to disappear into the silver!  For the second time around, I blacked out the bathroom and fired in there.. much better as I could see the metal changing color and knew when to stop.  I think in future I might fire outside.. at night!

I also put my first stone in.  A small cabochon sapphire.  I have some other stones coming from Gem Resources.. but they are on their way to the bead and button show and won’t be able to ship my order out until early next week.. so I’m guessing I might have to wait a few weeks to get the other two gemstones done.  Pout.

I’m so happy with the way that the gemstone turned out that I’ve decided to put 4 moonstones or garnets on the rim of the new donut/ring I’m making.   Another thing I want to try is making toggles from the short pieces of tubing I bought in my last order from Eclectic Studio.   So many ideas.  So little time.

I also finished putting the inner rim on the new ring today.   It’s looking good.. really happy with the progress.  I just hope it all holds together when I get it fired.
